The Ministry of Gender and Children’s Affairs, in collaboration with key partners, has convened a strategic meeting to constitute the Executive of the Network of Women Ministers and Parliamentarians (NeWMaP), marking a significant milestone in Sierra Leone’s efforts to advance women’s leadership, unity, and inclusive governance.
The meeting brought together women leaders from various sectors with the aim of fostering solidarity, collaboration, and collective action to enhance women’s empowerment and participation in decision-making processes across the country.
The newly formed NeWMaP Executive is expected to play a critical role in advocating for policies and programs that promote gender equality and strengthen women’s representation in governance.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Gender and Children’s Affairs, Madam Isata Mahoi, underscored the importance of women’s leadership in shaping Sierra Leone’s development agenda.
“We are committed to creating an enabling environment for women to participate fully in governance and decision-making processes,” she stated.
The meeting was attended by representatives from government ministries, Parliament, civil society organizations, and development partners. Participants engaged in constructive discussions on strategies to enhance women’s leadership and promote inclusive governance nationwide.
The establishment of the NeWMaP Executive aligns with the government’s commitment to implementing the Women, Peace, and Security agenda and advancing women’s participation in politics and public leadership.
Overall, the meeting represents a significant step toward building a more inclusive, equitable, and gender-responsive society in Sierra Leone.
