United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Sierra Leone, in collaboration with Statistics Sierra Leone, the Directorate of Science, Technology, and Innovation (DSTI), and Data-Pop Alliance, has launched a Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence (AI) training programme.

The initiative aims to strengthen public sector capacity for evidence-based decision-making, supporting inclusive development and national transformation in Sierra Leone.

The training programme will equip participants with the skills to harness integrated data systems, apply analytics and AI to address key development challenges such as poverty, climate change, migration, and public service delivery. By building advanced data capabilities among public officials, the programme seeks to enhance the government’s ability to design and implement effective, data-driven policies and programmes.

“Integrated data is key to inclusive development and transformation,” said Ahunna Eziakonwa. “We are committed to supporting Sierra Leone in leveraging data analytics and AI to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.”

The programme forms part of UNDP’s broader support to Sierra Leone’s development agenda. By fostering a culture of data-driven governance, it will enable more informed decision-making, improve resource allocation, and enhance public service outcomes.

The initiative is expected to significantly impact Sierra Leone’s development trajectory by enabling the country to harness the power of data and AI to drive economic growth, reduce poverty, and advance sustainable development.
