The Sierra Leone Premier League Board has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Sports Writers Association on Wednesday 4th October, 2023, for the forthcoming 2023/2024 league season.
The MOU signing took place at the league’s Secretariat in Freetown, where representatives from both parties gathered to solidify the agreement. This initiative seeks to strengthen the relationship between the Sierra Leone Premier League Board and sports journalists, ensuring comprehensive and accurate coverage of the league throughout the season.
Mr. Victor Lewis, Chairman of the Sierra Leone Premier League Board expressed his enthusiasm regarding the collaboration, highlighting its potential to elevate the league’s profile both domestically and internationally.
“This partnership represents a major step forward for the Sierra Leone Premier League. By working closely with the Sports Writers Association, we aim to provide fans with in-depth, timely, and accurate coverage of the league, ultimately bolstering its popularity and fostering a deeper connection with the football community,” Victor Lewis Said.
The MOU encompasses various aspects, including granting sports journalists improved access to league-related events, matches, and players of the month award, thus enabling them to deliver comprehensive and engaging stories to football enthusiasts. Additionally, the agreement outlines the establishment of regular press briefings and facilitated interviews with league officials and players.
Sahr Morris Junior, President of the Sports Writers Association, echoed Mr. Lewis’s sentiments, emphasizing the significance of this partnership in fostering a more transparent and collaborative environment.
“We appreciate the Sierra Leone Premier League Board for recognizing the essential role sports journalists play in promoting the league. This MOU signifies a shared commitment to enhancing football journalism and providing our members with the tools and opportunities needed to cover the league in depth,” stated Sahr Morris.
Both parties are optimistic that this collaboration will not only bolster media coverage but also contribute to the overall growth and development of football in Sierra Leone, capturing the hearts and minds of fans across the nation.
