Nectar Sierra Leone Bulk Terminal (NSBT) one of the key operators at the Freetown Port under the Sierra Leone Ports and Harbours Authority (SLPHA) has received a Special Achievement Award at the 2025 International Bulk Journal (IBJ) Awards.

NSBT expressed gratitude to SLPHA and its senior management for their continued partnership and guidance, which have been crucial in advancing improvements across the port for the benefit of all stakeholders.

The award recognises Freetown Port’s outstanding contributions to the global maritime bulk industry at this year’s IBJ Awards ceremony, held on 17 November 2025 at the Titanic Hotel in Liverpool.

According to the citation, the Special Achievement Award on Cargo Handling is reserved for organisations demonstrating exceptional accomplishments within the global dry bulk sector. The accolade celebrates NSBT’s successful completion of the new third berth at the Queen Elizabeth II Terminal, along with the terminal’s continued development, enhanced cargo-handling efficiencies, and ongoing operational upgrades.

In addition, Freetown Port was shortlisted for the “Best Dry Bulk Port” Award an honour it previously won in 2016. This year’s nomination further reflects the terminal’s strong performance, innovation, and sustained commitment to excellence both regionally and internationally.

Accepting the award on behalf of the terminal and the Freetown Port, NSBT General Manager Siamba Kamara expressed heartfelt appreciation:

“We are profoundly honoured to receive this distinguished award, which reaffirms our commitment, dedication, and resilience in improving the standards of cargo handling.

This achievement inspires us to continue contributing to the growth and success of Freetown Port. I extend my sincere appreciation to the Nectar Group, the NSBT team, SLPHA, all our partners, and the wider community.”

NSBT Director Guy Wilkes added that the award is a significant milestone not only for NSBT’s management and staff but also for the leadership and workforce of SLPHA and for Sierra Leone as a whole.

SLPHA continues to earn praise for its increasing efficiency, productivity, and growing influence within the global maritime and shipping sectors.
