The Sierra Leone Police (SLP) has unveiled its Mid-Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF) Budget for the period 2026–2028, totaling Le 576,023,180. The announcement was made during a session at the Ministry of Finance Hall on George Street on Wednesday.
The Honourable Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, David Fortune, emphasized the importance of adequate funding for security services, noting that financial backing is crucial for sustaining key police operations, such as enhancing visibility, emergency response, community policing, and daily patrols.
Inspector General of Police, William Fayia Sellu, expressed satisfaction with the budget presentation, stating that it aligns with the SLP’s Strategic Development Plan. He commended his team’s efforts and reaffirmed that public safety remains the force’s top priority. He also called on the government to provide the necessary support for the successful implementation of the plan.
ACP Alieu Turay, Director of Support Services, highlighted the essential role of security in national development. He outlined the SLP’s key objectives for 2026, which include the rehabilitation and upgrade of the SLP Headquarters, recruitment of 1,000 new officers, acquisition of 35 four-wheel drive vehicles for nationwide patrols, modernization of the garment factory, and provision of camouflage uniforms for the Operations Support Division (OSD).
Mr. Jah, Director of Budget Services, acknowledged the comprehensive nature of the SLP’s budget proposal and pledged to conduct a careful review. Various stakeholders, including financial analysts, civil society representatives, NGOs, and media organizations, expressed support for the plan and solidarity with the SLP’s funding request.
The Sierra Leone Police stressed that adequate resources are vital for effective policing, maintaining law and order, and safeguarding human rights. The SLP reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the country.
