The Sierra Leone Police has disclosed to the fourth estate in their weekly press briefing at the Sierra Leone Police headquarters George Street Freetown about the launch of their new operations.
A.I.G Sallu briefed the press that over the weekend the SLP provided security for the Koinadugu dual elections of the district council chairman and councilor for ward 155 constituency 046.
He said the election went well over 90% of it was well peaceful even though there were issues but those issues did not hinder the outcome of the process.
A.I.G Sallu furthered that National Electoral Commission have to move the counting and tallying of the result was move to Freetown and it was completed at the NEC were house Willington. “In addition to that in all our police stations and division police operation are ongoing, our operations and daily activity as raids are ongoing especially when the curfew have lifted we have received an up surge criminal activity and every area commander and local unit commander is under instruction to step up and they have a police at PMB that every local commander if they allow three robberies in your division they will be replace” Sallu said.
A.I.G Sallu further disclosed that raids, patrols and various operations are going side by side and the SLP have been engaging the community with the view to revamp the Local Policing Partnership Board and community safety volunteers as this are the one who actually help us in operations as the SLP have realized over the past that they cannot do it by them self and they depend on the community to support them.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police who doubles as the chairperson of the press briefing and who is the Director of Crime Services Fayia Sallu disclosed that the SLP have launched and declared a new operation on the 6th October, 2021 called “Operation Restore Order” he said this operation is designed to Clare the right of way as traffic hic up due to obstruction on the right of way and they create problem for the pedestrians and they too work on the street. He continued to say it cause a lot of challenge of vehicler traffic and cause a number of accidents. The rout were the operations have been launched are from Eastern Police to Waterloo, the SLP and supported by Sierra Leone Roads Safety Authority traffic wardens and the Ministry of Works as they are jointly conducting this operation.
Dilating on the promotions of the SLP, A.C.P. Brima Kamara said the SLP have been getting calls from the public on national issues. He further said in the SLP they have three cadres, the operational cadre, tactical cadre and the operational cadre. “We are expecting promotion for the tactical as well as the operational layers” said media one.
A.C.P. Kamara said it take a lot of time to give promotions because they have to follow due process and the promotion process is ongoing. He further said they want to do due diligent to the promotions. He continued to say hopefully between now and the next 30 days promotion will be out for the other level they have within the SLP.
He also talk on eviction as most people misconstrue the fact that when we talk about eviction that is the job of the Sierra Leone Police. He said the police have the rights to assists the court to perfect order of the court. He ended by saying evictions are not done by the SLP and that the SLP will go there to provide security cover based on the orders of the court.
When he was delivery update the Director of Operation of the Sierra Leone Police, AIG Amadu Mannah said the police want the media one to extend an invitation to people when the SLP are carrying evictions so that they will be there to see and serve as eyewitnesses as they will as ambassadors to educate the public. He they have been informing people and whatever they do is in line with court orders.
