At least eight police officers have been dismissed from the Sierra Leone Police for drugs-related issues since the pronouncement of the state of emergency on drugs by His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio.
This is according to the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG BRIMA Kanneh, who informed this medium about a security update in his jurisdiction.
He said the eight police officers’ dismissals resulted from them complementing armed robbery while executing their constitutional duties, noting that since they were arrested and prosecuted, the southern region has been relatively quiet and peaceful.
“With regular and vigilant day and night security patrols, there is a water-tight security within my area of responsibility,” he said.
He further pointed out that recently, a significant number of people found in unlawful possession of drugs have been arrested and prosecuted, including Nigeria and Liberia nationals who were arrested at the Fala checkpoint in possession of a large quantity of cocaine.
Meanwhile, to maintain such watertight security at the respective check points in his jurisdiction, the southern region police boss has strictly advised his personnel to be vigilant and thorough in their operations, especially at the different check points.
Brima Kanneh thanked Sierra Leoneans for being supportive and understanding of police operations, noting that community policing, healthy interactions, and the sharing of vital information with the police are key to the watertight security people are enjoying in the southern region.
Whilst advising youths not to be misused to perpetrate violence and other social vices in their communities and on social media, AIG Brima Kanneh disclosed that the in take of drugs and other harmful substances has drastically reduced in the southern region.
He appreciated the media for creating platforms for the sharing of vital information about their operations which has cushioned their herculean work load.
