The Southern Regional Police Command, under the leadership of Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Brima Kanneh, has intensified its fight against drug-related crimes, leading to a significant breakthrough in the ongoing battle against illicit substances. A targeted operation by the Regional Transnational Organized Crime Unit has resulted in the seizure of 41 ounces of Kush and the arrest of two suspects believed to be key players in the illegal drug trade.
The crackdown began on March 19, 2025, when police apprehended Umaru Jalloh of Bo Number 2 Extension, Bo City, on suspicion of possessing and distributing the highly addictive substance. Further investigations traced the supply chain to Andrew Kargbo of Tengbe Town, Freetown, who was arrested on March 21, 2025. Authorities suspect that Kargbo is the main supplier, while Jalloh played a critical role in distributing the drugs within Bo and its surrounding communities.
During preliminary questioning, Kargbo claimed it was his first time engaging in such activities in Bo, attributing his involvement to financial hardship. However, law enforcement officials are conducting a thorough investigation to determine whether he has deeper connections to organized drug networks operating across the country.
The police have assured the public that the investigation remains active, and both suspects are expected to face charges in court upon its conclusion. The Southern Regional Command continues to emphasize its commitment to combating drug trafficking and maintaining law and order in the region. Citizens are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to aid in the ongoing efforts to curb drug-related crimes.
This latest operation underscores the effectiveness of the Community Policing Strategy, which has been instrumental in identifying and dismantling criminal networks involved in drug distribution. Law enforcement officials reaffirm their resolve to work closely with communities to ensure a safer, drug-free society.
