Hon. Moses Edwin, Member of Parliament representing Bonthe District, is currently attending the 6th World Conference of Speakers of Parliament (6WCSP) in Geneva, serving as the official representative of the Speaker of Sierra Leone’s Parliament.

This high-level global forum brings together parliamentary leaders from around the world to deliberate on pressing international issues and promote collaborative governance.

As part of the Sierra Leone delegation, Hon. Edwin is actively engaging in discussions that advocate for stronger multilateral systems, with a focus on the empowerment of women and youth key pillars in addressing development challenges. This advocacy aligns with Sierra Leone’s broader national priorities, including the promotion of gender equality and youth participation in governance.

“The empowerment of women and youth is essential for sustainable development,” Hon. Edwin affirmed. He stressed the need for coordinated global efforts to craft and implement effective policies that support these groups, particularly in the context of post-pandemic recovery and resilience.

The conference agenda covers a wide range of themes, including legislative frameworks, social inclusion, and the role of parliaments in achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Sierra Leone’s participation is aimed at both sharing experiences and drawing lessons from global best practices to inform domestic policy improvements.

Hon. Edwin’s involvement at the conference reinforces Sierra Leone’s commitment to engaging in international dialogue on inclusive development. As the world continues to confront shared challenges, the emphasis on enhanced multilateral cooperation is viewed as essential for addressing the unique needs of women and youth across diverse societies.

The outcomes of the 6WCSP are expected to influence future legislative strategies in Sierra Leone, contributing to the country’s vision of a more inclusive and equitable society where all citizens are empowered to actively participate in national development.
