Sierra Leone National Paralympic Committee has on Thursday 24th March, 2021 presented medalists to the Ministry of Sports and the National Olympic Committee (NOC) of Sierra Leone.
After a successful Paralympic Prix in Tunisia, Athletes Juan Faith Jackson and Sorie Kargbo both won two silver and two bronze medals in Tunis 2021 World Para Athletics Grand Prix. The President of the Paralympic Committee and its membership did a symbolic presentation.
Faith Jackson picked up the third position in the women F46 Javelin throw; and second in the 100M T46. Sorie Kargbo won Silver medal in 200M in the Africa’s largest Para sports competition as this is their first international show pic.
President of the Association, Unisa Deen Kargbo said he is happy to present Para athletes who have made the nation proud in the international sporting arena. He said the first time such presentation was done was the time of George Wyndham a Para athletes who also won Bronze in his last international tournament he participated. He said these set of Para athletes who have brought medals are in the position to qualify for the next Olympic Games in Japan.
In his address, Dr. Kenneth Brima the Director of the National Sports Authority said these are the things they want to see from the athletes in the Country. He said government is ready to give its support to all sporting disciplines in the Country.
Dr. Patrick Coker the President of the National Olympic Committee said he feels happy to have received another set of athletes who have done good job internationally and he is looking forward to receive the final updates from Tunisia if the athlete’s qualify for the Olympic Games in Japan. He entreated them to sustain their good work.
Head coach, Mohamed Kamara expressed appreciation to his athletes for their hard work by bringing medal to the country. He said that this has been their wish coming to fruition.
He affirmed that as coach he will continue to do more ahead of the Olympic Games if they qualify.
Talking to A-Z News Sorie Kargbo an athlete who also brought in silver and Bronze medals said he felt good to have won, noting that this is just the beginning, promising to do more to represent the country.
Juan Faith Jackson a winner of both silver and Bronze medals in 100M Women’s Javelin and 200M in the Women’s said she is happy to have won medals at an international stage. She confessed that this is her first international tournament and has developed confidence to do more in winning laurels for the country.
