The Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association has intensified preparation ahead of the Benin Junior Championship that is set to take place from the 12th to 16th October 2021 in Benin Kotonu.
According to Kelvin Ezekiel Kele the President of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association “we are always prepared because we have a program in Lawn Tennis that is to develop young Lawn Tennis players ranging from under 14 to the senior level, on competition basis…”
He affirmed that the selection process has been done and it is based on merit.
“We don’t select players because of their affiliation, favoritisms or connections.”
He added that they are going with (6) Lawn Tennis players three girls, three boys, two coaches and one Official. The Championship is not going to be a new tournament and the female team is ranked 5th in Africa.
He further stated that the last time the team went there they brought three trophies and base on their performance that is why the organizers decided to call them back in the Championship.
Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association in their last outing in Benin the team defeated Benin in home soil and bagged two trophies.
According to Amadu Bangura the head coach of the Sierra Leone Lawn Tennis Association the team is in high spirit and determined to face an opponent in the Championship.
He added that they are calling the National Sports Authority to help them with funding for them to represent the Country, because if they won gold medical the team will qualify to the Junior Championship in Morocco in the December 2021.
“The female team the last time won Silver medal while the male team failed to win any trophy, but with the level of preparations as coach am confident that they team will come back home with Gold medical trophy.”
