Sierra Leone’s Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt and the Jamaica Tourism Minister, Hon. Edmund Barlett have held discussions on signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries on tourism cooperation. The discussions were held during the Fitur 2023 exhibition in Madrid, Spain.
The move was aimed at strengthening tourism cooperation between Jamaica and Sierra Leone. The Jamaica tourism minister, Hon. Edmund Barlett noted that with the strong historical and cultural association between the two countries, it was strategic to collaborate and strengthen their tourism cooperation, hence both countries have lot to offer in tourism and can also capitalize on the opportunity to build new experiences for their visitors. The two ministers deliberated on issues around air connectivity, training development, marketing and promotional activities, cultural exchanges, tourism diversification and growth and resilience.
Further discussions to finalize the MoU between the two countries will be held in the margins of the Global Tourism Resilience Conference to be held in Kingston, Jamaica at the University of the West Indies’ Regional Headquarters from February 15th-17th, 2023.
A delegation from Sierra Leone tourism sector headed by the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs, Dr. Memunatu Pratt were in Madrid, Spain where they attended and showcased Sierra Leone’s tourism potentials and rich cultural values at this year’s Fitur Exhibition. The Minister and team also had fruitful deliberations with other global Tourism stakeholders on the development of Sierra Leone’s Tourism and Cultural industry.
