The high-profile event, which was attended by trade ministers and delegates from across the WAMZ region, was warmly welcomed by Sierra Leonean President Julius Maada Bio.

The President expressed his delight in hosting the visiting delegation, commending the Forum’s persistent work in championing good trade governance, improving trade facilitation, and enhancing cooperation among stakeholders.

“This Forum has consistently championed good trade governance, improved trade facilitation, and the enhancement of cooperation among stakeholders for regional trade integration over the years,” President Bio said.

Adding that the 7th Technical Committee Report of WAMZ would serve as a vital catalyst to transform the shared aspirations of the Forum into tangible actions.

The WAMZ Trade Ministers’ Forum has been instrumental in driving the regional integration agenda, focusing on key areas such as trade facilitation, policy harmonization, and the promotion of intra-regional trade.

Sierra Leone’s successful hosting of the 11th edition of the Forum underscores the country’s strong commitment to this important regional initiative.

In recognition of Sierra Leone’s leadership, President Bio announced that the country had been elected as the Chair of the 11th Trade Ministers’ Forum of WAMZ.

This appointment positions Sierra Leone at the forefront of the regional economic bloc’s efforts to accelerate trade integration and foster greater economic cooperation among member states.

The 7th Technical Committee Report, which was highlighted by President Bio, is expected to provide a clear roadmap for translating the Forum’s shared aspirations into concrete actions and policies. This report will serve as a crucial tool in driving the process of regional trade integration, ultimately benefiting the people of West Africa.

The successful hosting of the WAMZ Forum in Freetown is a testament to Sierra Leone’s growing influence and reputation within the region.

As Sierra Leone played host of this year’s edition, the country is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the regional trade agenda and fostering greater economic prosperity throughout the West African Monetary Zone.
