Sierra Leone High Commission to the United Kingdom has commended the Sierra Leone community in Helsinki, Finland especially the newly established Sierra Leone Unite Office for bringing together Sierra Leoneans in the diaspora and those at home to commemorate the sixtieth independence anniversary.

In her statement, delivered virtually, the Deputy High Commissioner to the UK, Her Excellency Mrs. Yvonne King called for sustained support from Sierra Leoneans abroad towards the actualization of President Bio’s new direction agenda.

She said Sierra Leone is a country with great potentials and people who love their country and cherish the land in spite of the COVID 19 pandemic, the mudslide, Ebola and the eleven years brutal rebel war.

She added that her country, “Mama Salone” was deeply touched by the infamous Atlantic Slave Trade as the seat for the colonial administration at that time.

 She assured the Sierra Leonean community based in Finland and other accredited countries that President Bio’s vision is tailored towards strengthening the international ties existing between Sierra Leonean and western countries.

 She said the doors of the High Commission are open for nation building oriented projects and programmes “so that the brothers and sisters over here can have a way of paying back to their country of origin.

Founder of the Sierra Leone Unite Office in Finland,  Mr. Sorie Obai Kamara aka Obi-Phrase, brought together host of Sierra Leoneans in Finland together with other members of the Salone Get Reggae team at home and abroad to mark the recent independence of Sierra Leone graced by dignitaries in the Sierra Leone  Embassy to  Kuwait , and the Founder of  the Peagie Woobay Scholarship Fund for Girls in Sweden, through virtual connections.

The commemoration was climaxed by musical performances done by artists like Jah Skillful in Belgium, Cosko B in the UK, Alan Tikal in Sierra Leone among others, nationally and internationally.

Mr. Sorie Obai Kamara who happens to be the Sierra Leone Music Ambassador to Europe, based in Finland used the occasion to thank the government of Sierra Leone and His Excellency Dr. Maada Bio for his development agenda.

He said the sixtieth independency anniversary commemoration is in consonance with the theme for their programme, “Elevating at 60”.

He said the country is positioned as one with a lot of potential that will l be well established to be one of the most admirable countries in the world.

He told compatriots to love one another and work towards achieving great successes for the country. He called on Sierra Leoneans to complement the effort of government in terms of development, noting that all hands should be on deck for the progress of the country.

He cautioned that peace is golden and has to be maintained at all cost, by all political parties in the country.

He implored  Sierra Leoneans residing in Finland to utilize the newly established Sierra Leone Unite Office for the good of Sierra Leone; searching for programmes and sourcing funding for the human capital development drive introduced by the government of Sierra Leone.
