In his inaugural media appearance since being elected President of the Sierra Leone Football Association (SLFA), Mr. Babadi Kamara shared his vision during an exclusive interview on AYV News Television’s flagship breakfast show, Wake Up Salone. This marks a promising new chapter for football in Sierra Leone.

Kamara discussed his immediate priorities and long-term goals, starting with the urgent need to revamp the SLFA Secretariat. He described its current condition as “not reflective of modern football administration standards,” stressing the importance of creating a professional environment that fosters innovation and accountability.

A significant focus of the discussion was the alignment of the Sierra Leone Premier League calendar with the international transfer window. “We must ensure that our league structure is in sync with global football operations. This will not only enhance our players’ marketability but also improve the integrity of the local game,” he asserted.

Kamara also extended an invitation to all football stakeholders, aiming to unite the community beyond the political divides that emerged during the recent elections. “Now that the elections are over, it’s time to prioritize football. I welcome every stakeholder regardless of affiliation to join hands in rebuilding our game,” he stated.

Highlighting his commitment to gender equality, Kamara expressed his determination to support women’s football on par with the men’s game. “Female football deserves equal investment, visibility, and opportunity. We will ensure our female athletes receive the platform and support they need to excel,” he affirmed.

Grassroots development was another key topic. Kamara emphasized the importance of nurturing young talent across the country. “If we are serious about competing on the continental and global stage, we must build from the bottom up. Grassroots development is key,” he remarked.

On infrastructure, he pledged to collaborate with corporate partners, the government, and international organizations to enhance playing facilities nationwide, addressing the substandard conditions that have long impeded player growth and fan engagement.

In closing, Kamara articulated his overarching ambition: to elevate Sierra Leone’s national teams, particularly the Leone Stars, to a position of respect and admiration throughout Africa and beyond. “We want our national teams to be symbols of pride—disciplined, competitive, and worthy of the support they receive. That is my ultimate ambition.”

The interview has generated a positive response on social media, with many praising President Kamara’s calm demeanor, humility, and passion. Viewers have described him as a “Godsent” for Sierra Leone football an inspirational leader ready to guide the sport into a new era of hope and unity.

As President Babadi Kamara embarks on his tenure, this initial public appearance signals a proactive and inclusive leadership style, inspiring optimism among fans, players, and administrators for a brighter future in Sierra Leonean football.
