SIERRA LEONE FEMALE U-20 SIDE DEPARTS TO SENEGAL AHEAD OF WORLD CUP QUALIFIERS
Sierra Leone Female National under 20 sides has the 23th September 2021 departed for Senegal ahead of the FIFA World Cup for back-to-back qualifiers preliminary rounds against Guinea.
A 32 man delegation left Freetown international airport in Lungi with Air Senegal at around 7:15 pm local time and the delegation is comprise of 22 players and ten Officials onboard the trip.
According to Lamin Tarawallie the Media Officer at the Sierra Leone Football Association the match was supposed to be played in Guinea but due to its Political instability the Guinea FA has order the match to be move to Senegal.
He affirmed that the first leg match in the qualifiers will take place on Saturday the 25th September 2021 and two weeks later the two sides will lock horns again at home on the 9th October 2021. The motivated Sierra Leone girls will rally against Guinea in the second rounds of five for a spots to represent Africa along with others in the 2022 FIFA World Cup -U-20 tournament which is set to take place in Costa Rica. He added that the team will spend (6) days and will be expected back on the 26th September 2021.
The National under -20 side commenced training in August 2021 to get themselves ready for the crunch tie against the Guinea counterparts. The team has been in high spirits and well determines for the tie, they play three Friendlies matches with outstanding results in those Friendlies, winning two and lose one.
In terms of gathering the players, the head coach, Victoria Conteh female U-20 side that she went around the Country to pick out talents to constitute her crop of players.
“Our priority is to have the players to give the Country calculated representation in terms of female football worldwide,” Coach Conteh said.
She added that it’s been challenging through considering the absence of a sustained and effective female League in the Country.
The squad has been winning in recent years and has recorded some wins in international Competitions. Sierra Leone Women’s teams have played only four FIFA recognized matches two in 1994 and two in 2010, since them the development of Women Football has been faced with challenges; such as lack of organized domestic Leagues.
