The Sierra Leone female cricket Contingent that left for Botswana to participate in the ICC Women T 20 Cricket World Cup qualifiers has returned home on 17th September, 2021, after disappointing performance.
The Sierra Leone Female Patriots get a back-out win against debutants Cameroon in their Wednesday’s final match. Cameroon won the toss and opted to bat first, posting 75 for the loss of nine wickets in 20 overs.
The Female Patriots won the match by 6 wickets after losing three decisive wars against Nigeria, Namibia and Uganda in the Gaborone ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers.
The Ladies’ early pull back from the tournament has been attributed mainly to poor fielding, no catches, and spin bowling.
The team has arrived in Freetown on Friday 17th September, and they are set to start an inward assessment of loss incurred and to forge a new path to change.
According to Emmanuel Pissima the Director of development at the Sierra Leone Cricket Association the male Cricketers are currently in an intensive training ahead of the Uganda qualifiers that is set to start next month.
He affirmed that they need the support of government for the male team to make the trip, because they will be representing the country and the challenges the female Patriots faced in the qualifiers in Botswana is great and that is a huge factor for their disappointing performance in the qualifiers.
The Sierra Leone female Patriots Cricket team departs to Botswana without for the qualifiers without adequate support from the Government.
The last time the female Patriots won the trophy in Ghana, they were outstanding in their previous outing.
A total of 35 man delegation went for the tournament and they all have returned safely in Freetown at 7:30 pm on Friday 17th September 2021.
