Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Ltd. (SLCB) began operations as a private corporation on February 15, 1973, after being incorporated under the Companies Act of 1948 on January 9, 1973. Since its inception, it has been the first thriving indigenous bank and public enterprise.

On April 11, 1980, SLCB formally opened its 14-storey ultra-modern structure at 29/31 Siaka Stevens Street in Freetown with its own resources, barely two years after it began operations.

SLCB has a 50-year track record of consistent performance as a result of the company’s unwavering dedication to providing value to all stakeholders. The Bank has offered a comprehensive variety of financial services, including corporate, wholesale, business, and retail banking, as well as global money transfer services through Western Union, MoneyGram, and Small World, and globally approved visa cards for online transactions.

The Bank remains a frontrunner in the country’s commitment to and implementation of financial inclusion initiatives, as it pursues the implementation of many innovative products that allow individuals, SMEs, and businesses to invest their funds while also enabling them to improve liquidity management to foster business growth and customer service.

The current Board and Management of the Bank has improved its main banking applications and ICT infrastructure thereby, laying the groundwork for new digital products and cashless payment methods. This has enabled the bank to adapt to the changing dynamics of mobile money and will soon launch the “Mi Yone SLCB Moni Wallet,” an electronic wallet that caters to both account and non-account holders, facilitating various financial transactions such as transferring money to any mobile number, cash movement between one’s phone and a bank account, merchant payments, and cash receipts from agents rather thus, reducing queuing in banking halls during peak periods.
