The International Boxing Federation has on Tuesday 6th December 2021 disclosed that if the Sierra Leone Boxing Association may have International suspension if they failed to honor their dues in the just concluded IBA International Boxing Championship.
According to Alhaji Komba the Secretary-General of the Sierra Leone Boxing Association, they have presented their budget to the Ministry of Sports and the National Sports Authority for funding for the trip, but they never received anything from Government to help them with funding to the trip to Serbia.
He reaffirmed that they were given a fruitful hope that when they go and come back they are going to receive their funding but to their dismay, they have yet to receive even though the federation has Involved in many debts that and has forced them to even pledge their Vehicles before their departure.
He said the boxers left Sierra Leone to represent Sierra Leone on the international stage with no funding and represent their birth Country, but if the government don’t come in and help the Federation will face the axe of the International federation which will deprive them not to part take in the international stage. Currently, the federation is bracing up for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
Sierra Leone Boxing Association has over the years competed in both local and international competitions.
