The Africa Cup of Nations decider between Sierra Leone (Leone Stars) and the Squirrels of Benin has been called off for today at 4pm in Guinea, Conakry.
The Confederation of Africa football (CAF) decided to call off the African Cup Of Nations qualifying match because there was uncertainty after six of Leone Stars players were tested positive for Covid-19.
The six players include goalkeepers Ibrahim Sesay, Francis Koroma, and Augustus Kargbo, Idriss Kanu, Alusine Koroma and Kassim Sima Turay.
The news of the players having Covid-19 broke out to the team, when they were warming up for the postponed match.
The Sierra Leone officials did not accept the positive results and a second test was done to establish the genuine results but it was later ascertained that the players were Covid-19 negative.
The Organizing Committee decided to postpone the match for today at 4pm at the Lansana Conte Stadium in Guinea, Conakry.
On March 30th 2021, Sierra Leone was supposed to host Benin for the African Cup Of Nations qualifying match to be hosted in Cameroun.
The Beninese players underwent Covid-19 tests, but five of their players tested positive. This is the second time such a failure is happening to the crucial fixture, prompting a rescheduling of the match for today.
As it stands, all players and technical Staff were asked to return to their respective hotels.
Sierra Leone needed to win to qualify while Benin only needs a draw.
