Sierra Leone Ambassador Advances Bilateral Cooperation with Mayor of Salé

Sierra Leone’s Ambassador to the Kingdom of Morocco, H.E. Alhaji Momodu Koroma, met with the Mayor of the City of Salé, Mr. Omar Santissi, to strengthen bilateral cooperation during a high-level engagement organized by the Association of Workshops and Cultures in partnership with the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies and Crisis Management. The meeting was held on Thursday, 4 December 2025, at the Salé Municipality Hall.

Held under the theme “Cultural and Economic Diplomacy: The Morocco-Sierra Leone Model,” the dialogue explored opportunities for collaboration between the City of Salé and Sierra Leone across critical development sectors. The discussions also reaffirmed Sierra Leone’s support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara Region.

Ambassador Koroma highlighted the longstanding and mutually beneficial relationship between Sierra Leone and Morocco. He reiterated Sierra Leone’s firm position recognizing Morocco’s full sovereignty over its Sahara Region and supporting Morocco’s development initiatives in the Southern Provinces—emphasizing that this stance is rooted in shared strategic interests and a strong foundation of bilateral cooperation.

The Ambassador and the Mayor outlined priority areas for collaboration, including economic development, cultural exchange, social programming and capacity-building initiatives. Both parties expressed their commitment to developing practical mechanisms that leverage their comparative strengths for the benefit of their respective communities.

Speaking on behalf of the Democratic Labour Organization (ODT) and the Democratic Organization of Immigrant Workers in Morocco (ODT-I), Mr. Amadou Sadio Balde, National Secretary for Immigrant Workers, welcomed Sierra Leone’s clear and friendly position. He reaffirmed the unwavering support of the immigrant workers’ community for Morocco, stating that “Morocco cannot be divided.”

The engagement was attended by senior representatives from the Association of Workshops and Cultures, the Salé Provincial Council and the Moroccan Center for Strategic Studies, demonstrating strong institutional commitment to advancing Moroccan-African cooperation.

The meeting reflects the growing momentum in Morocco’s relations with African nations and reinforces the role of local institutions in strengthening strategic partnerships with friendly countries.
