SIERRA DOLPHINS COMPLETE FIRST TRAINING SESSION IN UAE AHEAD OF WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

 The national swimming team, Sierra Dolphins, has on 15th December 2021 concluded their training session at the Etihad Arena, Yas Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE ahead of the 15th FINA World Swimming Championships which will commence on the 17th December 2021.

Speaking about the team’s preparedness for the 15th FINA edition World Championship, Head Coach /Team Leader, Mr. Sheku Conteh,  said that the swimmers are in high spirits for the competition as they are not only training for this major FINA competition but also the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham next year.

He affirmed that the Championship is vital toward their preparation for the Commonwealth Games that is set to take place in Birmingham from July 8th to August 8th 2022. The Swimmers has made significant improvement in their time recorded and they have also improved their skills and approached towards international competitions.

President of the Sierra Leone Swimming Diving and Water Polo Association, Mr. Mohamed Abdul Turay told the athletes to focus on the competitions ahead of them and emphasized that they should take full advantage of the modern facilities at the Etihad Arena, throughout their stay.

He added that the swimmers to use this world Championship as a springboard for the Commonwealth Games to be hosted by Birmingham City next year so that they will make a big impact at said games.

The four swimmers will be competing in all the swimming strokes in the 25m swimming pool viz,

•          Joshua J.J Wyse – 50m Freestyle and Butterfly events

•          Isha Kanu – 50m Breast and backstroke events

•          Mohamed Kamara – 50 and 100m Breaststroke. •          Tity Dumbuya – 50 Freestyle and Butterfly events
