A seven-month-old baby boy, Samuel Conteh of Chewaiyor Village in Gbense Chiefdom, Kono District, has reportedly drowned in a rubber bowl filled with water used for domestic purposes.

According to Komba Sourie, the Media Officer attached to the Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters in Koidu City, the incident occurred on Monday, March 16, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m. He described the incident as a case of death by misadventure.

Mr. Sourie explained that, based on a report made by the child’s father, Sara Conteh, both father and child were lying on a bed when the father fell asleep. During that time, the infant reportedly crawled off the bed and into a deep rubber bowl containing water, where he drowned.

The father later reported the incident to the Tankoro Police Station on the same day. Following the report, police officers visited the scene, documented the area, and took photographs as part of their preliminary investigation.

The body of the deceased was then transported to the Koidu Government Hospital mortuary for a superficial post-mortem examination. However, at the request of the family, the remains were subsequently released for burial.

Police have urged parents and guardians to exercise increased vigilance to prevent similar tragic incidents involving children in the home.
