SEND-Sierra Leone has successfully empowered young women by organizing a two-day training on storytelling and journalism in Kenema, with support from Irish Aid. The training, aimed at strengthening the capacity of members of the Young Women in Governance Network, focused on equipping them with the skills to document and share the valuable contributions of women across Sierra Leone.

Throughout the sessions, participants explored the power of storytelling for community engagement while sharpening their reporting skills. The training included practical exercises in story drafting, peer editing, fact-checking, and advanced interviewing techniques. Additionally, participants were introduced to the ethical standards and confidentiality requirements vital in responsible journalism.

Facilitators guided the participants through both written and oral assessments, designed to boost their confidence in writing and reporting. The training culminated in a fieldwork simulation exercise, where participants covered local community issues, practiced their skills, and received valuable peer and group feedback.

SEND-Sierra Leone emphasized that this initiative has enhanced the ability of young women correspondents to produce impactful stories, amplify community voices, and foster inclusive dialogue across Sierra Leone.
