The Secretary General of the Union African Traditional Sports Games (UATSG) has 15th August 2022 revealed the Union’s activities plans for the years ahead.
The revealing of these plans comes during the celebration of Traditional Sports and games in Zambia. During the celebration, over fifteen tribes across Zambia were assembled in Lusaka at the second Stadium in the City to play their various cultural games; eight of those sixteen games are common and popular in Sierra Leone and West Africa.
The Newly appointed Board Members of the union said that even though could not commemorate the anniversary on account of national security concerns but hopefully next year’s celebration will be held celebrated in grand style.
He affirmed that the Union working plan is to include all three games that were approved during the celebration to be incorporated in popular African Traditional Sports for all members States the initial three, adding that five popular African Traditional games will be approved and implemented in Primary and Secondary School as a target and not limited to competitions but to pass this traditional Sports to the Children without fading Off.
He said Sierra Leone is losing lives every year for lesser or no exercise due to a lack of facilities, African Traditional Sports and Games can reduce or prevent such in Sierra Leone.
The goals of the (UATSG) are to promote Pan-Africanism and create a platform to stimulate pride in diversity through other people’s contributions to the United effort to decolonization are committed to using traditional games as a tool for promoting integration, Unity, and peace around Africa.
