The Executive members of the Boxing Association, led by Secretary General Alhaji Komba, have presented a proposed document to the Minister of Sports, Madam Augusta James-Teima, at her office in Bishop House, Freetown. The purpose of the proposal is to organize both a national championship and an international bout.

Secretary General Alhaji Komba, in his opening statement, expressed regret that circumstances beyond their control prevented the tournament from taking place in Bo last year. However, after thorough consultations among the executive members, it was decided to stage the tournament on April 26th and 27th, 2024, at Lumley Beach.

Sheka Mansaray, a member of the team, provided an overview of the proposed project before handing it over.

In response, Madam Minister expressed gratitude for the continuous pursuit of developmental projects by the Boxing Association, one of the 49 sporting associations she holds in high regard. She emphasized the importance of such initiatives for the overall development of sports in the country and assured her support for genuine projects aligned with the government’s expectations.

She encouraged the association to await her review of the document and promised to collaborate on marketing strategies for sponsorship, acknowledging the need for financial support from the government. Madam Minister also urged the association to address internal issues to ensure unity, especially considering the participation of foreign boxers in the upcoming tournament.

She thanked Sheka and the team for their efforts and pledged to work with the National Sports Authority Executive Members to fulfill the association’s aspirations.
