A 15-man Scrabble delegation will depart tomorrow ahead of the Sierra Leone friendly 2nd leg encounter with Liberia in Monrovia. According to the President of the National Scrabble Association of Sierra Leone (NSASL), Chris Asgill the trip to Liberia is sponsored by the association and a few philanthropic Sierra Leoneans.

He added that team Sierra Leone’s ranking will drop drastically if they fail to honor the second leg.

Sierra Leone foreign based Scrabbler, Mohamed Alieu and Emmanuel King both will miss out due to personal reasons. Christian Asgill explains the important of the trip but however expressed dissatisfaction for lack of financial support from government.

He said: “I like the spirit and it shows how the scrabblers are determining to crush Liberia after their dismal performance in Freetown but we lacked financial support from government” he said

“We`re going there to fly the green, white and blue of our beloved nation and we are expecting the National Sports Authority (NSA) to have raised funds for the said trip as promised earlier. We approach them on several occasions but all they could tell us was No money available for your trip to Liberia. He explained

Asked about the mood on the camp; he explained the Scrabblers are determined to give their all in the second leg encounter despite our current financial challenged.

He said they are far ranked than Liberia after our dismal performance in Freetown and failing to honor this game will affect our ranking.

“Football is the most followed sports in the country but we also have good sporting disciplines namely Athletics, Volleyball, Cricket and Swimming have make this nation proud and we are gradually moving closer to them”.

“Our performance in the last World Championship in India speaks volume as we are currently ranked 10th in the world.

“America, Argentina, Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, Scotland and Canada are big nations but we are above them in the current World Scrabble ranking and to achieve this government played their part because had it not been their intervention we wouldn`t have achieved this success”. He said.

He said the Liberia second leg encounter will not be an exception as all fifteen scrabblers are determined to give their all in this derby.
