The deputy director of the ministry of Basic and senior secondary Education (MBSSE) IN Kono District Prince Ngebeh has said that the proliferation of schools in the District serves as a serious challenge to the clarion call of the quality education initiative in the District and the country as a whole.  He made the statement in an interview with A-Z newspaper after the 2023 financial year bilateral budget discussion at the kono District Council Hall D O  barracks in koidu City. When talking on the causes of the said proliferation of schools in the District, mr Ngebeh noted that the propagation of religion is one of the major factors responsible for the illegal opening of schools in kono District. He said the illegal way of establishing schools is when the ministry is not aware and doesn’t approve the running of such schools.

DD Ngebeh continued that most of the schools within the municipality of koidu were opened without the approval of the ministry which is charged with the constitutional responsibility to superintendent the operations of all schools in kono District in order to achieve the clarion call of the free quality education in the country.

“Although the primary motive of the free quality education agenda of president Bio is to making sure that education is accessible to every Sierra Leonean child, people should not take advantage of the said agenda to establish schools any how in the District without the ministry being informed about it Prince Ngebeh warned.

Talking about the criteria for the establishment of schools, DD as he is fondly called maintained that he ministry has received the school establishment approval guidelines that clearly outlines the processes and cateria involve in the establishment of schools, noting the ministry will soon embark on a massive sensitization to abreast the general public on how the recent school establishment approval guidelines including all of education policies ranging from the school approval, uses of school subsidies and feeding, radical inclusion and others to prevent people from going against the education laws or policies.  According to Prince Ngebeh after the sensitization the ministry will effect the carrot and stick approach on anyone found wanting of illegally establishing a school or schools thereby frowning at the education policies in the District and the country as a whole. However local gossip has it that some of the ministry’s authorities are clandestinely supporting the illegal opening of schools by facilitating the speedy approval of those schools by government on percentage basis.
