The school feeding program launched by the government of Sierra Leone informed by the every five years survey on the poverty level in Sierra Leone, has been going on smoothly with stockpiles of food items offloaded in Makeni city for the pupils in nine Chiefdoms including Makarie, Pendembu and Gowahun Chiefdom in Bombali District.

According to the Coordinator for the School Feeding Program, Northeast Region, Salieu Kamara, the program is running smoothly and creating the desired impacts. He said they did not handpick the schools to benefit from the program, noting that they select schools based on the survey carried out by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry to ascertain chiefdoms worst hit by poverty. He said the government of President Bio is lobbying around the universe to ensure that the school feeding program continues to put food in the bellies of school-going children.

He said food is provided five times a week for Muslim Schools Sunday to Thursday and those attending Christian Schools get food from Monday to Friday every week.

Sento Kamara in Pendembu Chiefdom told this medium that ever since the introduction of the feeding program, she has not found pleasure in spending more money providing lunch for her four school-going kids.

Abdulai Sankoh in Makeni praised President Bio for taking education as his flagship program. He said the school feeding has helped in the area of attendance noting that before kids used to play truancy to find bush food but now they sit comfortably and receive their service.
