Save the Needy Sierra Leone has donated computers to at least five schools in Bo and two schools in the nation’s capital, Freetown. According to the chief executive officer of the aforementioned organization, the aim of donating computers to the beneficiary schools is to strengthen and promote digital literacy by bridging the digital gap in the country.
Vidal Fofanah, Chief Executive Officer of Save the Needy Sierra Leone, said that during her visit and tour of many schools in England, she was amazed to see children at the age of seven operating computers to perfection compared to children of the same age in Sierra Leone who have little or no knowledge of computing.
She added that upon seeing the professional skills and abilities at which children in England were operating computers, my management thought it prudent to invest in the digital project in order to bridge the digital gap in the country, noting the lack of knowledge in computing in this digital age will adversely affect Sierra Leonean children thus it is significant for children in the country to have digital literacy that will help them to be useful in the present digital age.
The Chief Executive noted that owing to the proper implementation of the project in the country, the donor partner who recently visited Sierra Leone was very pleased with the implementation process and gave at least two hundred computers to bridge the digital literacy gap in the country.
The beneficiary schools in the southern region and the nation’s capital, Freetown, include Bo Commercial Secondary School, Tinkonko Secondary School, Sir Albert Secondary School Sumbuya, Saint Pious Secondary School, Blessed Michael Thomson Preparatory and Junior Secondary School, and Bishop J High Secondary School in Freetown.
Madam Fofanah pleaded with the heads of the beneficiary schools to take proper care of the computers and ensure that the children have the requisite knowledge for the betterment of the country, as they will be receiving the donated computers from Save the Needy Sierra Leone.
The respective heads of the beneficiary schools thanked and appreciated the support of the donor partner and Save the Needy Sierra Leone for considering their schools and assured them of the judicious use of the donated computers.
