The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASL) has held it Triennial and Elective Congress over the weekend at the Siaka Stevens Stadium Presidential Lounge.
A Total of 105 members took part in the Elective Congress to decide who will rule them in the next three years, as Sahr Morris Junior and Mohamed Konneh the contesting candidates went head to head in the polls.
According to observation, SWASAL Elective Congress was generally peaceful and orderly and the Electoral Commission appreciates the entire membership of SWASL for their cooperation and general comportment. Total of 103 voters were cast in the elections, and the numbers includes the following.
1. Ballots cast in person for the two national positions are 83 with no invalid votes
2. A total of 20 proxy votes cast in the entire elections with no invalid votes. And the voter turnout was about 98.04 percent.
Results…..
1. Eastern Region Executive – there is only one qualified nominee from the Eastern Region in the person of Fomba Maada Kanneh as Vice Chairman
2. Southern Region Executive – all nominees from the Southern Region were disqualified on the grounds of ineligibility.
3. Northern Region Executive
All nominees from the Northern Region were disqualified on the grounds of ineligibility.
Below is SWASAL executive with their respective positions.
President
Mohamed Konneh polled 29 votes while his opponent Sahr Morris Junior pull 74 votes cast and he is declared as winner of the elections.
Vice President
Mohamed L.Bah contested against Sheku Sackoh Turay, after the voting and counting Mohamed .L .Bah pull 59 votes while his opponent Sheku Sackoh gets 44 votes.
The other following position were uncontested for, Secretary General Position went to Francess Sally Bernard
Financial Secretary position went to Emmanuel C.Thorli from the Eastern Region.
The Organizing Secretary position went to Desmond Tunday Coker, the position was uncontested.
After losing the President election to his opponent Mohamed Konneh congratulate Sahr Morris Jr. On his election as President.
He said that it was a friendly contest and we wish the new president all the best in new president all the best in his new assignment.”
He added that it is a win for SWASAL and a win for Sports Journalism. And promise to work with the Sahr Morris Executive to move the Association.
The President elect Sahr Morris Junior in giving his Speech, he started by expressing sincere thanks to God Almighty, his Family, and campaign team and all for support and belief in him.
He added “Throughout this period we’ve shown the sporting family that we are not only a family but example to follow.”
