The Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone (SWASAL) will on Saturday 29th May 2021 elect a new President to succeed the outgoing Frank Cole led Executive for the next three years, The elections are slated to take place in Freetown at the Sierra Leone Association of Journalists headquarters, Campbell Street.
The two Aspirants have served the Association during the outgoing Frank Cole led Executive and now they both want to occupy the hot seat of the Sports Writers Association of Sierra Leone.
Sahr Morris Junior is working for Mercury International at the Public Relations Department and he is the deputy Public Relations Officer of Mercury International and also doubles as the Sports editor of Concord Times newspaper and has been in the World of sports for years.
Mohamed Konneh is working for Standard Times newspaper and he is a senior reporter and has also been in the World of Sports for years and has served the Frank Cole led Executive as the Financial Secretary.
The two Candidates have launched their manifestos to make it known to SWASAL members, the package of goodies if they vote any one of them.
According to Sahr Morris Junior during the official launching of his manifesto titled “our manifesto” simply because it is an inclusive manifesto and there are a lot of good things for members.
He affirmed that if delegates vote him he would strive to transforming their conditions of service.The key points in his manifesto has to do with the welfare of member’s in the Association which over the years has been in deplorable state, as members are working for Media Houses with no pay and if member’s think wisely to vote him he is going to address the situation for all members in the Association.
The other key points in his manifesto is to see that all newspaper in the Country must be report local sports in the Country,as according to Sahr Morris he will do an engagement with Editors of various newspapers to encourage Sports Journalists to be covering sports for their Newspapers.
According to Mohamed Konneh`s manifesto key points has to do with Education for members in the Association and to be lobbying with partners for funding because with the wealth of experience in financial transaction he is definitely going to transform the Association if delegates think wisely to vote him as the new president of SWASAL.
A total of one hundred and five members will have to decide who they want to be their leader in the next three years.
For the first time in the history of SWASAL Elections, Francess Bernard Bundor set to go on opposed for the Secretary of the Association and Desmond Tunda Coker has gone on opposed for Organizing Secretary and that Dalton Shyllon has been petition not to contest for the Public Relations Officer simply because he is working for the Ministry of Sports
All members set are now set for the much anticipated SWASAL Elections.
