The Sierra Leone Boxing Association delegation has on Sunday 24th October 2021, departed the shores of Sierra Leone to compete in the 2021 AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championship in Belgrade-Serbia.
Sierra Leone as a debutant, left with a 9 man delegation from Freetown to join the rest of the world in competing at the AIBA world’s biggest boxing showpiece.
Meanwhile, debutante boxer for Sierra Leone, USA-based Ismail Sillah, born to a Sierra Leonean father and UK-based Coach Tony Cise is also expected to join the team from USA and UK respectively.
The delegation comprises of:
Solomon D. Kargbo President, Alhaji Komba Sec-Gen, Foday Conteh Head Coach, Tony Cise Ass. Coach, Samuel Kamara 81kg (boxer), Mohamed Kandeh 92kg (boxer), Mohamed Sillah 71kg(boxer), Ismail Sillahk 80kg(boxer), John Browne 60kg(boxer), Ansu Koker 75kg(boxer), and Tamba Sogboh 57kg(boxer)
The AIBA Men’s World Boxing Championship is a great competition that serves as the biggest platform for the boxing world governing body to converge all national boxing federations across the world to represent a unique mixture of team spirit, courage, patriotism, and unfathomable passion for boxing.
Representing the country in Belgrade, the boxers have vowed to do their utmost best in lifting the Green, White, and Blue higher than expected.
Therefore, the head of the delegation, president Solomon Kargbo, has called on the National Sports Authority (NSA) and the supervising Ministry of Sports, to adhere to the pronouncement of H.E Bio that government will not only cater for football but all sporting disciplines, by funding the budget presented to the government for this world championship.
Sierra Leone Boxing Association has held three national championships before the current ones these were the International Boxing Day and the opening of the BO Boxing Gym, where all boxers across the assembled to bout to each other to get a national team that will be representing the Country. The Boxers that made the trip were selected from those Championships.
According to Secretary-General Alhaji Komba, the technical team has selected the best boxers for the Championship and the Public should remember them in their Prayers as they are there to represent the Country and to set records.
