Sierra Leone Ambassador to South Korea, His Excellency Kathos Jibao Mattai has participated in this year’s BIXPO 2021 at the Kim Dae Jung Convention Center in Gwangju that was held on 10th -12th November 2021.

The BIXPO 2021 event was hosted by Korea Electric Power Corporation in collaboration with the Bitgaram International Exposition of Electric Power Technology.

The purpose of the event is to introduce future technologies in the energy industry, marking its 7th years.

The BIXPO 2021 is to be a comprehensive international energy exposition that presents future technologies and direction of the energy industry, including renewable energies and energy efficiency, under the theme of Carbon Neutrality, the global critical issue.

The keynote speakers for this year’s event were Ban Ki-moon, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Angela Wilkinson, Secretary General of the World Energy Council (WEC).

In his statement, Ban Ki-moon says the carbon neutrality committee has proposed a road map that practically excludes nuclear power plants. He added that achieving carbon neutrality is impossible without adopting nuclear energy. He said that given South Korea’s topographical and climate conditions, many experts find this an improbable proposition, noting that France, Britain and China have all recently revised their policies on reducing nuclear energy. He said that they have recognized that the carbon neutrality cannot be achieved without the help ofAtomic power. He concludes by underlined that Korea should utilize its expertise in small modular reactors, which are safe and efficient.

Cheong Seung-il, President of KEPCO said that the carbon neutrality vision, initially declares the company’s vision of achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and discusses its significance.

He added that, to help Korea achieve the carbon neutrality goal on schedule, KEPCO plans to lead de-carbonization in the energy transition sector by innovating power supply systems, and to fully support other implementation segments, such as overall industry, transportation and buildings.

He ended that, as part of its efforts to reduce greenhouse gas, KEPCO will demonstrate major technologies and policies for addressing climate crisis by composing realistic content, such as smart tablets and videos of future vision.

Kresten Qrnbjerg Vice President Global Affairs Vestas said that Vestas is the energy industry’s global partner on sustainable energy solutions. He added that they do design, manufacture, install, and service wind turbines across the globe, and with +145 GW of wind turbines in 85 countries, we have installed more wind power than anyone else.

He said, through their industry-leading smart data capabilities and +123 GW of wind turbines under service, and use data to interpret, forecast, and exploit wind resources and deliver best-in-class wind power solutions. Together with our customers, Vestas’ more than 29,000 employees are bringing the world sustainable energy solutions to power a bright future.

Chinho Park Vice Chancellor KENTECH in his presentation, Mr. Park said that Korea is consuming lots of energy in small area; he said after 2012 they saw an increasing in the energy sector from 1% to 3%. He said they are trying to do a system approach, he ended that Korea is a small size land with very much in development in Technology.

The event was climaxed by visitors to visit real-world booths to view videos of new technologies and directly communicate with exhibitors via voice and text chatting channels.
