The Republic of Sierra Leone Armed Forces (RSLAF) issued a press release today, January 16th, 2024, notifying all illegal occupants of an impending demolition exercise targeting makeshift structures within or around barracks across the country.
Colonel Issa Bangura, the Director of Defence Public Relations and Information, emphasized the necessity of maintaining security within RSLAF barracks. The press release highlighted the increasing number of illegal occupants and makeshift structures within Western Area Barracks and Upcountry formations and units.
According to Colonel Bangura, the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and RSLAF are set to initiate the eviction and demolition process, starting from Saturday, January 20th, 2024, to Sunday, January 28th, 2024. The primary objective is to ensure a secure environment within all RSLAF Barracks.
All individuals currently occupying illegal structures within Military Barracks have been strongly advised to vacate their premises immediately in their best interest. Colonel Bangura emphasized that this exercise is crucial for maintaining maximum security, command, and control across all Barracks locations.
The RSLAF urges cooperation from the public to ensure the smooth execution of this operation and to avoid any disruptions during the specified period. The Armed Forces remain committed to upholding the safety and security of their barracks and surrounding areas.
