The Line Manager of the Family Support Unit Tankoro Police Divisional Headquarters says sexual penetration is on the increase in their operational areas in Kono district.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Mohamed Sillah told our correspondent that the spate of sexual penetration that is reported at the FSU is owing to the robust awareness raising that they have embarked upon in recent times.

He noted that gone are the days when perpetrators of such offences together with the victims and family members compromise sexual related offences without making official report at the respective Family Support Unit of the Sierra Leone Police.

ASP Sillah maintained that most of the perpetrators of the reported sexual penetration cases are youths who are sometimes underage. He thanked God for the Amended Sexual Offences Act 2019, which has made provision for underage perpetrators to stay at remand homes until they attain the age for them to be tried in a court of law.

The FSU Line Manager Tankoro Police Division pleaded with the government of Sierra Leone for the provision of mobility in order for them to visit the scene of crime when the need arises as his unit lacks mobility to investigate such matters especially in remote communities in Kono District.  A.S.P Mohamed Sillah thanked their partners and members of the public especially the people of Komba Yendeh Town for promptly reporting to the police station the recent sexual penetration matter that occurred in the aforesaid town and urged them to sustain the stance.
