In a strong demonstration of government responsiveness, the Sierra Leone Roads Authority (SLRA), under the dynamic leadership of Ing. Alfred Jalil Momodu, has initiated major road maintenance works along the critical stretch from Bormeh Ferry Junction to Upgun. This intervention follows growing public outcry over the deteriorating condition of the road and the increasing risk of traffic accidents in the area.
For months, residents and motorists have raised concerns about the poor state of this vital route, describing it as a death trap for both pedestrians and vehicles. Responding to these concerns, the SLRA has mobilized technical teams and resources to carry out urgent repair and rehabilitation work. The current efforts focus on patching potholes, resurfacing damaged sections, and improving drainage systems to prevent flooding and erosion.
Ing. Momodu reaffirmed the Authority’s dedication to prioritizing roads that are essential to daily transport and economic activities. “We are listening to the concerns of the people. Safe and accessible roads are key to national development, and we are taking proactive steps to improve road safety and connectivity,” he stated.
This project forms part of a broader national effort by the SLRA to improve road infrastructure and reduce fatalities caused by poor road conditions. Local road users have welcomed the intervention and expressed hope that other neglected roads across the country will soon receive.
As maintenance work progresses, the SLRA has called on the public to cooperate with construction workers and observe all traffic safety guidelines around the work zones to ensure the safety of both the workforce and commuters.
