The Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project (RUSLP) with funding from the World Bank has supported Ministry of Lands, Housing and Country Planning with essential equipment in an effort to enhance productivity and job performance in institutional capacity-building support for the ministry during the handing over ceremony on Tuesday 14th January 2025 at the ministry’s conference hall, Youyi, Freetown.
List of the equipment included eight high-performance laptop computers; two 55-inch smart TVs; eight motorbikes; one DJI-350 RTK Drone; and one high-precision Trimble R12 GNSS Receiver used for surveying, mapping, and geospatial data collection.
The project executed under the Ministry of Finance, aims to focus on urban planning, solid waste management, urban infrastructure, and disaster risk management.
Anthony Koroma, Project Manager of Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project said US$140,000 was allocated for equipment, US$40,000 for GIS training and software deployment; and US$20,000 for land use planning and development control training.
Adding that the project has supported the finalization of building codes and the review of the Town and Country Planning Act, which is now under the custody of Parliament for approval.
Madam Phylis Kormoh, Deputy Minister of Lands, Housing and Country Planning underscored the emphasized the significant of having the right tools for effective work within the ministry. She added that the ministry would be held accountable for the efficient and effective use of resources
She thanked the Ministry of Finance and partners for their support in providing the necessary equipment, indicating a collaborative effort in obtaining and utilizing these tools efficiently. “I want to acknowledge the project manager for the Resilient Urban Sierra Leone Project for making sure the equipment meets the required standards,” Madam Kormeh said.
