Residents of Bo in disaster prone areas has urged the Bo City Council and the Sierra Leone Roads Authority to embark on the cleaning of the drainages ahead of the raining season.
Speaking to this medium, Augustine Kandeh said that the late cleaning of the drainages is sometimes highly responsible for the flash floods in the municipality of Bo.
Augustine said that the drainages in the swamp need to be cleared to avoid flooding, adding that the people of Bo should also help the council to clean their drainages by their houses as the council will not be able to do reach out to all the communities.
He however called on Bo City Council to empower the youths in the communities to embark on the regular cleaning of the drainages.
Reacting to the concerns of the people, the Manager of the Waste Management Department of the Bo City Council, Samuel Navo said that the Council is committed to the cleaning of Bo City with the Chinese donated trucks.
The Council he added is planning ahead to tackle future flooding and to maintain the cleanliness of the City.
Mr. Navo however said that the cleaning of the garbage in the drainages is not the primary responsibility of the council but that they are mandated to clean the surface and not the drainage itself.
He cautioned those in the habit of depositing garbage into the drainages to desist from it and if anyone is caught will face the full force of the law.
Mr. Navo called on residents of Manjama, Kennedy and Salina sections to exercise patients as Bo City Council is working towards getting rid of garbage in those communities.
Some of the staff of the Sierra Leone Roads Authority in Bo said that concerns of the citizens of Bo are in place to clean the drainages but the people of Bo should ensure that they do not deposit garbage in the drainages.
