The government of Sierra Leone through the newly established Disaster Management Agency and in collaboration with the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society, having assessed the damage caused by the fire that broke out at Mabela/Susan’s Bay on Wednesday, is working towards providing quick response to victims of the disaster.

“Temporal shelter will be provided urgently”, a government insider informed A-Z newspaper, cautioning that tough action would be taken against those unscrupulously persons trying to sabotage the distribution exercise.

According to the Red Cross Society’s acting  Branch Manager, Western Rural, Abu Bakarr Samura, registration of victims is in progess.

He said their tent has been pitched in the community to attend to the victims most of whom are seeking refuge at a nearby mosque which was not ravaged by the fire.

He said the fire was considered as one of the greatest level of destruction although no death was recorded. He disclosed that as part of their response, on Thursday, the Society referred those with wounds to the community health centre for treatment.

The coordination for the rescue of this set of Sierra Leonean victims has been going on smoothly with partners on their toes providing food and non food items worth millions of Leones. Various pillars have been instituted and Disaster Management Committees formed in disaster prone areas.

It could be recalled that over three hundred apartments burned on Wednesday rendering hundreds displaced in that shanty bay community.

This inferno is recorded as the twenty-fifth fire accidents that have taken place this month.
