Michael Theophilous Yeremeh Kargbo Prison Officer attached to the Information Technology Communication (ITC) Department, Headquarters New England Ville, Freetown on Monday 7th March 2022, made his first appearance before Magistrate Sahr Kekura of Court No 1 on a count of Unlawful business dealing with Inmate contrary to Section 25 (1) of the Correctional Service Act, 2014, Act No. 5 of 2014.
According to the charge sheet, the accused Michael Theophilous Yeremeh Kargbo, on Friday 3rd December 2021, at Re-Integration Facility at Sierra Leone Correctional Centre in New England Ville Freetown, being correctional personnel had unlawful business dealing with inmate knowing fully that it is prohibited. When the charge was read to him he pleaded not guilty. Upon that the defence counsel C. Campbell Esq applied for bail for and on behalf of the accused person pursuant to section 79 (3) of the Criminal procedure Act No.32 of 1965
However, Magistrate Keikura granted the accused person bail in the sum of ten million Leones (Le 10,000,000) with one surety in like sum.
The surety must be resident within his jurisdiction and the surety must produce valid identity card depicting his address in Freetown bail to be approved by the Deputy Assistant Registrar.
The matter is adjourned to the 15th March 2022. ASP Christiana Davies Cole is Prosecuting the matter.
