The breaking news ricochets around the globe from the United Kingdom that President Julius Maada Bio has been awarded best political leader in the sub region.
The award was delivered at the Summit of Carter and Merger Center for Leadership and Good Governance in the United Kingdom.
Organizers of the award are the Uhuru/Raila Peace Accord. The group has for six years running been promoting excellence in democratic leadership in Africa.
Other recipients of awards include President of Malawi Dr. Lazarus Chakwera, the former President of Malawi Prof Arthur Mutharika and the Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The award is validation of the good governance strides of the ruling party. Party stalwarts have been celebrating the news back home even as President Bio is in Dubai.
The parameters used in the award could not be unconnected to the institutional strengthening in especially tackling corruption, reforms in access to education, gender parity and protection of human rights such as the recent abolition of the death penalty.
The Sierra Leone Ambassador to the UK Dr. Morie Komba Manyeh is said to have received the award on behalf of President Bio.
