President Julius Maada Bio hosted a crucial meeting with representatives from the World Bank, the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet (GEAPP), and the Special Representative and CEO of Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) to advance transformative reforms in the country’s energy sector.
The high-level discussion, held in Freetown, focused on bolstering collaboration to address Sierra Leone’s energy challenges and drive progress toward achieving sustainable development.
The meeting comes at a pivotal moment as the government, led by Kandeh Yumkella and the Presidential Initiative on Climate and Renewable Energy Framework (PI-CREF), implements sweeping reforms aimed at expanding energy access and enhancing sustainability.
The World Bank, GEAPP, and SEforALL have been instrumental partners in Sierra Leone’s energy transition journey. Their support has been critical in financing initiatives, fostering renewable energy projects, and building capacity to meet the nation’s growing energy demands.
President Bio emphasized the importance of these partnerships, describing them as “bold and transformative steps toward ensuring sustainable energy for development.”
The discussions also highlighted how the ongoing reforms align with global energy access goals and climate resilience targets. The government aims to leverage innovative approaches and international support to address pressing energy deficits while ensuring affordability and environmental sustainability for the people of Sierra Leone.
President Bio expressed optimism about the collaboration, stating that his government looks forward to continuing our partnership with the World Bank, Energy Alliance, and SEforALL as they chart a pathway to a brighter, more sustainable future for Sierra Leone.
The meeting underscores Sierra Leone’s commitment to tackling energy challenges through strategic alliances and impactful reforms.
Additionally, as government pushes forward with its vision, the involvement of global energy leaders signal hope for a future where sustainable energy powers development and improves lives across the nation.
