President Bio Reaffirms Commitment to Regional Judicial Cooperation

His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio welcomed the leadership of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice to State House, including the Court’s President, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, and Vice President, Hon. Justice Sengu Mohamed Koroma on Monday July 28, 2025.

The high-level visit underscores ongoing efforts to enhance judicial capacity and strengthen regional cooperation within the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).

During the meeting, President Bio expressed his appreciation for the congratulatory message from the Court’s leadership and acknowledged their commitment to supporting capacity-building initiatives for Sierra Leone’s Office of the Attorney General.

“This visit symbolizes our shared dedication to justice and the rule of law in West Africa,” President Bio stated.

As Chairperson of ECOWAS, President Bio reaffirmed his dedication to fostering strong relationships among ECOWAS institutions. He emphasized the importance of collaboration in promoting democracy, human rights, and effective governance across the region.

Discussions during the meeting focused on strategies to enhance judicial efficiency and expand access to justice key pillars for national stability and sustainable development.

The engagement with the ECOWAS Community Court forms part of a broader initiative to reinforce Sierra Leone’s judicial framework, ensuring that legal institutions are equipped to deliver justice and uphold accountability.

In light of the complex socio-political landscape in West Africa, President Bio’s commitment to strengthening judicial ties represents a proactive approach to enhancing regional solidarity and institutional integrity.
