His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio has presided over the official swearing-in ceremony of two newly appointed Deputy Ministers at State House. Mr. David Fortune was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, while Mr. Paul Hingha Augustine Charles Tucker assumed office as Deputy Minister of Communication, Technology, and Innovation.
The ceremony was conducted in accordance with Section 57 of the 1991 Constitution of Sierra Leone, which requires public officials to take an oath before formally assuming office.
Mr. Barba Brima Fortune, Secretary to the President, opened the proceedings by outlining the process leading to the appointments. After being nominated by the President and vetted by Parliament, both candidates received official approval, clearing the way for their appointments.
Speaking on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, Mr. Tucker expressed deep appreciation to President Bio for the opportunity to serve.
“We pledge to fully support our supervising ministers in implementing your administration’s governance policy objectives and in consolidating the progress already made,” he said.
He further acknowledged the weight of responsibility attached to their roles and pledged to carry out their duties with integrity and dedication.
In his remarks, President Bio congratulated the appointees and emphasized the importance of their roles in addressing the country’s challenges.
“You are taking up your responsibilities at a time when we face several challenges, including resource constraints largely driven by global geopolitical tensions,” he stated.
The President encouraged the new Deputy Ministers to bring fresh ideas and innovative thinking to their respective ministries, urging them to contribute effectively within Sierra Leone’s unique socio-economic landscape.
The ceremony not only signified a key moment for the appointees but also reaffirmed the government’s dedication to strengthening its leadership team amid evolving national and global challenges. With a focus on public service and innovation, President Bio seeks to enhance the administration’s capacity to drive development and improve service delivery.
As Mr. Fortune and Mr. Tucker assume their new roles, expectations are high for them to contribute meaningfully to the government’s agenda and respond to the pressing needs of the Sierra Leonean people.
Their swearing-in marks a renewed commitment to good governance, accountability, and national progress.
