Due to our democratic credentials we were accepted in the African Peer Review Mechanism. It happened during President Ahmad Tejan Kabba’s tenure as president of Sierra Leone.
Over the years our reputation as a democratic state has been so tarnished that President Julius Maada Bio has been made chairman of the APRM for two years.
And the secretariat has been created to check mate governance issues in the country. But happenings at that secretariat leave so much to be desired.
The whole African continent, UN and some donor countries have eyes on Sierra Leone now. And we must not let gains made over the years be tainted by greedy, corrupt and self- serving individuals manning APRM secretariat.
Huge sums of money are being dished out to APRM to carry out functions that will be graced by international partners with high repute.
After taking a close look at the current APRM secretariat, it reeks with corruption and mismanagement.
For the next two years, we will be dealing with international partners and therefore must not allow individuals who do not mean well for this country taint Sierra Leone.
The ACC must closely investigate APRM for the good of our country.
The good legacy of late president Ahmad Tejan Kabba and the good work of the current president Bio must not be seen wasting. The African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) set up to make sure government lives up to its true democratic credentials is itself staffed by corrupt, incompetent and self-serving individuals.
President Bio must wake up and make sure his good works are not retarded by some bad individuals.
After that health governance report was launched last year in August there were issues of corruption with money disbursed from the consolidated funds. The ACC paid a visit to the secretariat this year. And NAMED must join ACC to closely monitor APRM.
