In a bid to his big five manifesto election promise His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has met with National Farmers Federation Union to discuss on issues and challenges faced in producing healthy foods for all Sierra Leoneans.
The feed Salone Initiative is an ambitious programme to boost staple food production and drastically minimize our reliance on food imports, increase exports, create jobs, foster economic growth, and reduce poverty.
He went on that elections are an event that paves the path for a prosperous nation.
Additionally he claimed that his Government has improved the economy, reduced endemic corruption, improved people’s trust in Government, built and refurbished major infrastructure and significantly enhanced human capital base.
He went on that Farming is a good line of business and as such urged farmers Sierra Leoneans to invest in farming.
He highlighted a major flop that the government spends billions in paying farmers abroad in production of our daily food produce that we eat, this he said is due to the unavailability of machinery and labor input of Sierra Leoneans towards agriculture.
He urged all hands on deck into agriculture for a country’s sustenance agriculture is a key factor that should be inclusive in any government agenda.
President Julius Maada Bio said his government has taken the lead by investing in Agriculture for full time and export of agricultural produce to foreign countries as he said most of these countries rely on our produce.
He therefore encouraged all for Agriculture to be taken seriously as his government aims to tackle food sufficiency in the Country for its citizens.
