President Julius Maada Bio, alongside First Lady Mrs. Fatima Bio, led the nation in a heartfelt tribute to the Sierra Leone Armed Forces, recognising their unwavering dedication and sacrifices during the annual Armed Forces Day celebration at the Hockey Pitch, Wilberforce Military Barracks.
The ceremony brought together military personnel, veterans, families, and citizens in a show of national pride and gratitude. Addressing the gathering, President Bio paid homage to the role of the military in safeguarding the nation’s security and sovereignty.
“Today, we honour the brave men and women who have selflessly dedicated their lives to serving Sierra Leone,” he stated. “Let us salute our serving members, veterans, and our fallen heroes whose sacrifices have preserved our peace and security.”
The President underscored the significance of recognising the hardships and sacrifices endured by military personnel, emphasising the duty of society to remember their contributions. “This occasion is a solemn reminder of the bravery and commitment of our armed forces,” he noted. “We must always acknowledge their dedication to protecting our nation.”
The First Lady also took the moment to commend service members and veterans, stressing the importance of honouring their sacrifices. “It is our collective duty to remember and appreciate their contributions to national security and peace,” she remarked.
The commemoration featured a grand military parade, showcasing the discipline and unity of Sierra Leone’s armed forces. Citizens waved flags and cheered, reinforcing the strong bond between the military and the civilian population.
President Bio urged all citizens to continue supporting and respecting those who defend the country, reaffirming the nation’s commitment to its military. As the celebrations concluded, he expressed gratitude to all participants, stating, “We have a wonderful celebration ahead of us today. Happy Armed Forces Day!”
