Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio has officially launched the 2025 Status of Youth Report, reaffirming his government’s commitment to tackling youth unemployment and driving inclusive economic growth.
The report, presented by the Minister of Youth Affairs, Ibrahim Sannoh, offers a comprehensive assessment of the challenges and opportunities facing young people across the country.
Speaking at the launch event, President Bio emphasized that skills development remains central to his administration’s youth empowerment agenda. “Skills development is key to shaping their future and ensuring they succeed in society,” he stated.
As part of the ceremony, President Bio also inaugurated a new livelihood skills training program for youth bike riders at the Milton Margai Technical University Campus in Goderich. The initiative aims to equip bike riders with essential technical and entrepreneurial skills that will enhance their income and long-term prospects.
Supported by the World Bank and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the program underscores growing international support for Sierra Leone’s ongoing youth development efforts.
President Bio’s continued investment in the country’s young population reflects his administration’s recognition that youth are Sierra Leone’s greatest asset.
The 2025 Status of Youth Report further outlines key recommendations, including strengthening coordination among development partners, consolidating youth-focused programs, and establishing a National Youth Wealth Creation Programme. These measures aim to expand economic opportunities for young people and promote sustainable national development.
