In celebration of World Food Day, His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio has officially launched the $105 million Lives and Livelihood Development Project, aimed at boosting poultry and livestock productivity in Sierra Leone.
The project, supported by the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB), the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the OPEC Fund for International Development, is set to enhance the country’s agricultural sector.
During the launch event, President Bio expressed his gratitude to the development partners for their continued support and commended the tireless efforts of Sierra Leone’s farmers. He reflected on his call two years ago to increase agricultural productivity, which was met with a positive response from both the public and development partners.
The president also spotlighted the commissioning of Rural Farm Radio 98.9 FM, a dedicated platform designed to provide real-time advisory services to farmers. This initiative aims to equip farmers with the critical information and knowledge they need to improve productivity and ensure sustainable practices.
President Bio urged all stakeholders to remain committed to the collective effort of feeding the nation and emphasized the importance of intensifying efforts to enhance food security while improving the livelihoods of farmers. The launch of the Lives and Livelihood Development Project marks a pivotal step toward realizing this vision.
The project is expected to have a transformative impact on the lives of many Sierra Leoneans, especially farmers, by increasing their productivity and income. With the support of international partners and the firm commitment of the government, Sierra Leone is well-positioned to make significant strides in its agricultural sector.
